Theme: Loss
Elizabeth Bishop, in her well-known villanelle, “One Art”, advises us to learn and become
proficient in “the art of losing”. Her poem begins with objects and moves to relationships. Using
the theme of loss as a conceptual framework,
● write about a time when you lost something.
● write about getting lost.
● write a story about losing and finding.
● you go for a hike and become lost. The sun is setting quickly and you hear ominous
sounds in the forest. A twig snaps.
