Heaven and Hell in the NHL by Morris Lukowich, Geoff Kirbyson

Morris Lukowich played with his childhood heroes Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull, helped lead the Winnipeg Jets to the AVCO Cup and then became an NHL captain a couple of years later. His transformation to life after hockey was fraught with PTSD, financial troubles and thoughts about suicide. Unlike many players who reach such depths, Lukowich was able to pull himself out of it.

Geoff Kirbyson has been a journalist for more than 25 years, spending much of his career at the Winnipeg Free Press covering business and sports. He has written two books on the original Winnipeg Jets, The Hot Line and Broken Ribs & Popcorn. He is a stay-at-home defenseman with the Sofa Kings in a Winnipeg beer league.
